NOLA National Youth Gathering – Day 2
Today was pretty good. We finished 10 more hours of driving and arrived in New Orleans. I slept nearly the whole time because our room didn't sleep much last night... As we drove through the city, I saw some neat things like an above ground cemetery.
Our hotel is The Hilton Riverside. When we got there we had to wait in one of the big Salon rooms for our room keys. Those of you who went on Band Tour last spring know exactly what I'm talkng about, and that it's not extremly fun. Finally we got the keys, and took the elevator to the room. I was fairly disappointed in this hotel from the second we walked in our room. The room is very small for a double queen, probably the smallest double queen I've been in. Then, we found out there was no fridge, no microwave and no free Internet. The Internet costs $6 per hour. Going from the very nice Drury Inn to this isn't very cool.
Because of the anti-Internet thing, I'm doing all my blog posts on my iPod Touch and uploading them the next day on the street where I can get free WiFi. So they will be a day behind.
After being disappointed at The Hilton, we had to high-tail it to the Superdome. We were suppose to eat dinner at the "tailgate vendors" outside of the Superdome, but we didn't have time, the program was starting.
The program was awesome!!! I was amazed at the tech setup they had in there! A whole line of sweet moving lights, 9 giant projector screens, and a thumpin' sound system, not to mention haze and pyrotechnics. It was awesome to watch not just from the tech standpoint, but because the performing was awesome too! It was pretty crazy to see 37,000 Lutherans in the same huge building, dancing to the music. During the program there were some inspirational speakers, who were also very good. Overall the program was amazing, and i'm glad we have more of them.
After the program walked hack to the hotel. We were planning on eating dinner there, but the failed because there are nearly 4,000 people from the gathering staying in our hotel, and it seemed like all of them were in the food line. Also, our hotel is one of the evening event places, so people from other hotels come here to hang out. There was two blow up toys in one room, and upstairs there were two dances. They were pretty fun, but the DJ's were kinda pathetic. That just gives me more confidence that I could easily DJ with what I have. All of these things were very crowed, though. There are so many people here!
Well I'm getting tired so I'm going to go to sleep. I still haven't eaten a real dinner, but that's okay becuase I brought a lot of snacks.
Till tomorrow...
