Google and Apple. Destined?

"Google CEO Eric Schmidt Resigns From Apple Board. Surprised?" is the title of the article over at TechCrunch.
Lots of people seem to not be surprised, and are more surprised that it didn't happen sooner. But not I. I think Apple and Google would make a good team. In fact I expected Apple and Google to join forces one of these days (which would be very bad for Microsoft). But this doesn't seem to support that at all.
Some other anti-Google+Apple is that Apple turned down Google's application for a Google Voice App for the iPhone. AT&T didn't like it, because Google Voice would allow iPhone users to make cheap long distance calls and send free text messages. (Google Voice is currently in Beta by invite only. More here).
Personally I think Apple should ditch AT&T after their contract expires, and get more friendly with Google. I also hope that they don't single out another cell phone company as the sole provider of iPhones. They could sell a lot more devices if they offered it to other service providers, too.

Will Google and Apple ever be together in the future? I'd like to think so. Time will tell.
